Alimony is generally a payment of money once a month from one spouse to the other. Alimony can be paid for months, years or for your lifetime. Alimony is generally paid to help the receiving spouse meet his/her monthly living expenses.
Under certain circumstances, alimony can be modified or terminated. Florida Statute ยง61.08 governs the award of alimony. Presently there is no formula in Florida to determine alimony. The courts award alimony after hearing the evidence in the case and considering what other courts have done in Florida with similar facts.
